Fruit Salad
Fruit salad does not require a recipe in the traditional sense. What you need to do is select fruit that looks appetizing. Wash it, cut it, remove any seeds or pits, and toss it together in a bowl. A contrast of flavor, texture and color are admirable goals, but not necessary. I think people are more likely to eat fruit salad than a piece of fruit because it takes less work – for them, and hopefully they will thank the person who has done all the labor to prepare it.
Here are some ideas for fruit that is readily available, although some of it you may only find in season:
Melons: honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon
Pineapple
Kiwi
Citrus fruits: oranges, grapefruit, clementines
Stone fruits: peaches, plums, nectarines, mangoes
Apples
Bananas
Pears
Berries: strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries
Cherries
Grapes
Don’t forget these accompaniments to fruit salad which can be offered on the side:
Slices of lime – especially good with melon
Fresh mint leaves
Sour Cream
Yogurt
